Altran’s experts relate their implication
The Altran and Solar Impulse relationship has taken shape from a meeting of enthusiasts who have pooled their expertise and drive, turning a dream into reality. Altran's team of experts has used their expansive knowledge and skills for this incredible personal and technological adventure.
They relate their stories…

Mathematician by education, I joined Altran in 1991 with the desire to develop innovative solutions to complex problems. This complexity issue fascinates me; I think that unlike any physical standpoint, a mathematical point of view is always objective and accordingly, enables to truly manage complexity. On this premise, I developed a mathematical theory of complexity which currently serves as a basis for the “Advanced Modelisation & Simulation” department activities that I now lead.
"My role in the Solar Impulse project is related to the 'Simulation' aspect. I modelize the plane's in-flight behaviour accounting for all environmental parameters: location, sun exposure, winds strength, cloud cover...

"Almost since its beginning, I’ve had the great opportunity to work on the project management in this huge technological challenge. As it is unique and innovative, I had to adapt my usual work practices. I’ve set up the work processes of the team and handled the day-to-day development of the project until success of the Night Flight with the HB-SIA."
“I support the team with project management. My job includes various planning tasks, including scheduling, risk management, resource management, partner project management, and so on. "
“Within Solar Impulse, I belong to the team in charge of the safety of the project. I have to check all plane functions, identify any potential deficiency and collaborate with all the design team to improve the plane safety.”
“I have the great opportunity to work on the safety aspects of Solar Impulse with Luigi Ferriero and Matteo Bartolini. My mission is to monitor and oversee the technical aspects of the HB-SIB safety analyses. Such analyses are of major importance to ensure the safety of the pilot and of the overflown areas and are required by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation in Switzerland to obtain the permit to fly.”
"I’m in charge of the System Safety Assessment which aims to obtain a Permit to Fly delivered by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation in Switzerland: my role is to monitor and oversee the technical aspects of the HB-SIB safety analysis with Cristina Biagi.”
