Altran Foundation for Innovation
Making a commitment to the environment and solidarity

The Altran Foundation Award’s themes show its commitment to current social issues such as housing, energy, education, food security, carbon footprint reduction, transports, quality of water, communication support for developing countries… With one goal: to transfer technologies to let beneficiaries use them in a sustainable way.
Making a commitment to the environment
Francisco Gallo Mejia, Spain – 2008 Laureate
BAMBOO-BASED BUILDING COMPOSITES FOR SUSTAINABLE HOUSING
The project is about developing a bio-composite product based on Guadua bamboo that can be used for house building. This composite material stores the carbon absorbed by the bamboo and requires, for its fabrication, a little energy, water and materials (wood, bricks, metal, etc.).

The goal of the project is about an innovative technology combining social and economical development, respect of the environment and carbon storage.
The project beneficiated from a one-year dedicated support, during which the Altran consultants’ team worked with the Laureate on technical aspects (bamboo composite used, construction devices for the prototype, first plans...). The team also took part in fund raising, negotiation with potential partners and creation of a business plan.

Making a commitment to international solidarity
Guy Reinaud, France – 2002 Laureate
BECAUSE THE WORLD NEEDS MANKIND
To answer the developing countries’ needs, Guy Reinaud offers an alternative source of energy: bionass or « green » charcoal. Such a charcoal produces a low-cost, eco-friendly and universally available fuel from any type any type of organic material, such as straw, branches, plant waste and rice husk.
We absolutely needed the brainpower and a team to help us get ready for the industrialisation of the process. I especially appreciated the involvement of Altran consultants, who were motivated by the cause.
