Ste2am - Applying financial trading models to improve performance and efficiency of electricity networks

Big challenges = big opportunities: with energy prices and risks of blackouts on the rise, one often forgets the opportunities offered by future energy networks.

 

Across Europe, new possibilities of extra gains through flexibility are emerging, especially for market participants who can deliver capacity very fast, such as:

  • short fill-ins to balance the ups-and-downs of green electricity,
  • electrical storage capacities of diverse size, location and reactivity,
  • production processes which can be simply and repeatedly turned on/off.

All these examples demand a smart energy system and an intelligent market, which are a cornerstone of flexibility. Ste2am, the Altran Virtual Power Plant, enables an integration of networks and assets on these networks, and provides a proof of concept to build efficient electricity market places. This project is a key asset in the Altran strategy to develop innovative offers related to "Machine-Driven Big Data", in the framework of its Intelligent Systems global solution.

Ste2am applies a financial trading model to green electricty by defining buy/sell opportunities and improving profitability.
