| Adrian, could you describe your current (and also initial) project? My current project is in the automotive industry. It concerns a particulate filter, a very interesting little box placed on the exhaust pipe that traps and burns the very polluting particles produced by diesel engines. I am a computer science and automation control engineer, and I work with the modules that reproduce and simulate the behaviour of the engine and the filter of particles. This particulate filter will help respect the pollution constraints ‘Euro 5’ that will be introduced in 2009. It is my first project within Altran. My manager presented me two other options: one was a multimedia project in automobiles, and another project in the aircraft industry. I chose this one because it was the opportunity to apply my capabilities in automotive industry. Besides, car engines are thrilling! What do you find challenging in starting a consulting career? Working in an international environment can be very challenging because people from different places think in different ways and have different approaches to mine, but above all it is perfect environment for innovative ideas. The experience gained as a consultant cannot be compared to one from a job where you work with the same people for years! The number of things to learn in consulting is huge! That is the challenge. How does Altran help reaching your goals? My manager knows my true capacity and also my weaknesses; he helps me improve my skills and offers me projects that suit my career plan. To correct my weaknesses, we discuss and select training courses or other possibilities to improve my skills. I would hate a job where my manager would not ask: "What do you think, Adrian?" And the best part is that I will probably not want to work all my life on simulating engine behaviour. In a few years I would probably say “No more engines”! What will I do then? I will simply ask my manager to transfer my competences in another field! Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Altran is a very good solution for those like me who want to gain experience. In Altran I work with different companies, in different environments and I benefit from international training courses. In time, I will become an expert in my field and I will start coordinating other people. That will be the first step to management. But I cannot precisely anticipate where the challenges will bring me in 10 years! More information |
