2010 Innovation Awards: 3 winning projets on communicating devices

Launched in September 2010, the first international competition open to all Altran Group employees just awarded three ambitious concepts on the theme of communicating devices (smartphones, GPS, tablets...).

Launched in September 2010, the first international competition open to all Altran Group employees just awarded three ambitious concepts on the theme of communicating devices (smartphones, GPS, tablets…). Each of the Group's 5 main industries finds an echo in this theme: embedded systems for automotive, connected TV for telecoms, telemedicine for helathcare, trading floor communications for financial services…

This initiative allowed Altran employees to express their creativity and showcase their role as everyday innovators helping our clients go further. The selection criteria were both technical and commercial.

Each laureate will get the opportunity to give life to his or her idea while sharing in the eventual royalties. The Group will also facilitate the prototyping of each project, and the laureates will be able to follwo a training of their choice at the prestigious MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

Among the 300 registered projects, 3 ideas caught the eye of the international experts in the jury, in the fields of interactive television, energy consumption and augmented reality .

The laureates are:

TV Pattern
Raphaël Randaxhe – Belgium

This innovation aims to automatize the creation of interactive services for digital TV. Imagine you are watching a movie from your couch. You see the new BMW and like it a lot. With a press of a button on the remote, you pause the movie and open a page detailing the car's features. You can even book a test drive!

The innovation behind TV Pattern lies in its ability to systemize the contextual interaction necessary to rpduce content. There is no human input.

GreenEverywhere
Rui Barata – Spain 

GreenEverywhere is an application controlling the energy consumption for a designated neighborhood through smart captors. Information is available in real time on various platforms (web, mobile…).

The novelty lies in the competition initiated between the members of said community! This emulation will encourage energy savings. Moreover, local administrations could promote this initiative by offering rewards to the most efficient.

GPS Glasses

Make your life easier! Connect your GPS-enabled smartphone to these newfangled glasses displaying data on your environment in front of you. This kind of head-up display can offer directions, tourist information, nearby promotions... This is one of the ways augmented reality can enrich our lives daily.

The potential uses are numerous, both in the public and military fields.
