ING Renault F1 Team Partnership

The partnership between Altran and ING Renault F1 Team is no surprise. In an environment as competitive as Formula One racing, in order to be successful the best teams must be backed by the most advanced competencies available.

As European leader and a worldwide player in innovation consulting, the Altran Group is the ideal partner for a manufacturer like Renault in what could be described as the most prestigious form of motor racing. After six years of a fruitful collaboration resulting in four world championship titles, the partnership has been renewed fore three more seasons.

Based on both sides of the English Channel, the ING Renault F1 Team is a French racing stable that builds its single-seater F1 cars from A to Z. Consultants from the Altran Group play a part in the design of the engine, the V8 descended from a long line of famous V10 winners. At Viry-Châtillon, near Paris, amongst other things, these experts help to maximise the engine's breathing efficiency, improve its reliability in extreme conditions and optimise its performance with on-board electronics. The Enstone plant in Oxfordshire, UK, which develops the chassis and gearbox, also benefits from the know-how supplied by the Altran Group and its consultants, in the fields of project management and simulation (V-Car project) for instance. Olivier Guillaud is the Head of Technical Coordination for the partnership.

Since the beginning of the 2002 season, this technological partnership with the ING Renault F1 Team has, in return, provided the Altran Group with the benefits of a hospitality and communication programme enabling us to project the combined image of the two partners all over the world.

In 2005, the partnership came to fruition and the ING Renault F1 Team dominated the season from start to finish. Fernando Alonso became the youngest Formula 1 drivers' champion in history, and the ING Renault F1 Team claimed its first ever constructors' championship. They both managed to stay on top of the game in 2006, successfully defending their titles. After a rough 2007 season, spirits run high again as Fernando Alonso joins the team’s ranks once again in 2008 with one goal: a spot in the top three.

Altran Engineering Academy
Always on the lookout for young talent, Altran has joined forces with the ING Renault F1 Team to create a contest based on a unique concept: the Altran Engineering Academy (AEA), whose fifth laureate will be known this summer. Open to recent and future graduates from major schools of science and technology, this competition offers the winner the dream prize of a six-month paid work placement, in the ING Renault F1 Team's R&D department in Enstone. To be in with a chance to win this prize, entrants must present an innovative project which will improve the safety, reliability or performance of cars that are already at the cutting edge of technology.
