Leveraging Technology for reaching out to masses
Between 2014-15, the ARISE program was launched to enhance the reach and impact of the “National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a project initiated by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. ARISE has reinforced NPTEL through the development of courses/modules, translation, transcription, video content creation for some major engineering concepts. The program also offered scholarship support to over 80,000 marginalized engineering students from 1200 engineering colleges, out of which a majority belong to remote areas of the country such as Tiruvannamalai, Trichy, Vellore, Coimbatore, Hosur, Salem, Rai Bareli, Jabalpur, Ghaziabad, Meerut and so on. The program has allowed many students to access advanced teaching material created by experts in the engineering domain using MOOC.
After completing 5 years’ sustained programmatic intervention, this technology-based education program consolidated its understanding of the dynamics of higher education in India and paved the way for the organic development of ARISE On-campus, ARISE Women Empowerment and ARISE ToT program.
